Subject: Green Man Festival

As the embers on the festival bonfire slowly disappeared, bloodshot eyes and soggy trousers made their way to the Folkey Dokey tent to watch the opening act for the final day of the festival.

Achingly beautiful and captivating, Shady Bard were the perfect tonic for the weary festival goer soothing visibly sore heads with their slowly burning minimal soundscapes, delivered with endearing warmth and subtlety.

Each song is layered by a mini orchestra and pitch perfect vocal harmonies which slowly crept up sporadically building to an amalgamation of all instruments and occasionally frenzied drum beats before returning to the refined slumber that came before.

Highlights included 'Bobby', 'Torch Song' and their forthcoming second release on Static Caravan 'Penguins'.

During the set Vocalist Lawrence muttered complaints about his camping experience, strange for a band with such an obvious penchant for the outdoors. With lyrical subject matter consisting of wintertime, birds and Penguins, the band seemingly belongs in the outdoors creating soundtracks inspired by the animals and foliage of the countryside.

Greeted by a particularly receptive audience they seemed at home in the absorbing festival surroundings. This was a fine introduction to the Shady Bard catalogue and the perfect setting for a band on a journey which will surely lead to even greater things.

Shady Bard will release Penguins on Static Caravan.
